Ways on How to Fail As a Leader and How to Avoid Them.
"He has failed as a leader or she has failed
as a leader." You hear people say and wonder what it takes to be a failure
in leadership role. Having the responsibility of leadership is a task. You need
to handle it with a lot of care, to emerge as a great leader. I am here to
discuss in what ways leaders fail in their mandate. Then if you will be able to
do the opposite, then successful leader will be your name-tag. So which are
this five ways to fail as a leader? And how do you avoid them?
1. Too Much Talking Without Listening
When all you do is just talk and talk without
listening, you end up making silly mistakes. These are mistakes that could have
been avoided by listening to that other person. If your leadership DNA does not
have anything like listening, then failure is your portion. To avoid this
failure learn to listen. Shut down all disruptions and listen carefully, you
will be amazed with what you hear. This will even earn you respect among your
team members.
2. Shifting Your Focus on Results At The Expense
of People
Focusing your energy on the results
without caring about the people in the team will lead to your failure. Leaders
who fail put all their energy on results and forget there is a team to make the
results possible. Learn to understand the people in your team. Try and know
more about them, their families and celebrate with them when results are good.
Help people achieve results. In other words start with people towards results.
3. Forcing People to Follow You Because of Your Position
Failed leaders, believe that people will follow
them simply because of their position. When you keep demanding people to follow
you because of your office or title, then you are quickly headed to the books
of failed leaders. This happens when you keep reminding your team who you are
in terms of position. Well you can force through some decisions because of your
position. But for how long is the question. Time and experience has proved that
positional leadership never last. Earn your right to lead don't mandate it.
4. Stopping to Learn
As a leaders when you stop learning, then you are
headed to the failed leaders list. The truth of the matter is the world is
always changing and so stopping to learn makes you a yesterday leader. So you
to succeed as a leader commit yourself to constant learning and self-development.
Develop an ever-growing knowledge mentality.
5. Settling For Average
When you find yourself settling for average.
You are not willing to go an extra mile. You arrive late and leave early, then
failure is quickly beckoning. Show your hunger of success by doing all that you
can. Resist the urge to sell for average.
There we go. It’s now up to you to find immense
value in this five things. Then I can assure you, your leadership will not
remain the same. Avoid this five traits as a leader and your leadership graph
will keep rising every single day.
